Urgent and disturbing footage shows uncontacted Hongana Manyawa coming out of the forest to beg for food from miners on their land. This is forced contact, because the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa are struggling to survive on their land, which is being destroyed for nickel mining.
The Weda Bay mine, which is part owned by French company Eramet, is over four times the size of Paris, and overlaps with the territory of the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa people.The nickel being mined is destined to be used in electric car batteries.
