UN Special Rapporteur visits Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon

Prof James Anaya, the recently appointed United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous people, is currently visiting Brazil.
Prof Anaya is currently in the Amazon state of Roraima where he will visit Indigenous peoples in Raposa-Serra do Sol, whose land rights are under threat. A Brazilian Supreme Court decision on the Raposa-Serra do Sol Indigenous territory is due next week.
Later he will visit two Yanomami communities to hear their concerns.
This weekend he will travel to the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, where he is due to visit two Guarani communities and meet with Guarani leaders
