The World Bank ombudsman is investigating complaints that the Bank has been funding diamond exploration in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, without first consulting local communities.
Signs in English and Setswana were erected in the reserve, in reaction to the complaint, explaining that there would be low flying planes surveying for diamonds. Yet the signs could convey nothing to local Bushmen who read neither English nor Setswana.
