A unique appeal from Rita Piripkura, the only person from Brazil’s Piripkura tribe in regular contact with outsiders. She describes how nine of her relatives were massacred in one attack by loggers, and says that her brother and nephew, Baita and Tamandua, are known to still live inside the Piripkura territory. Other members of the tribe are believed to also live deep inside the territory. If their land is not protected, the Piripkura could be wiped out.

Tribal Voice is a project by Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples’ rights.

Governments and multinationals are trying to silence tribal peoples. They brutalize and murder them, and they steal their lands. They call them backward and primitive – but they’re not.

Tribal peoples are just like us. They, too, are concerned about their quality of life and their children’s futures. Their understanding of the world is as astute as anyone’s and they have perceptive things to say about almost every aspect of life today.

That’s why we’re giving tribes communications technology so they can speak to the world in real time.

It’s time to listen.
