We asked Oscar-winner Mark Rylance to read from a UNDP report that details the human rights abuses committed by WWF-funded park rangers against the Baka people in the Messok Dja national park in the Congo Basin.

These abuses are common in many protected areas in Africa & Asia. Conservation NGOs like WWF and The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) support the theft of Indigenous peoples’ lands. The rangers they fund routinely beat, imprison, and sometimes kill them.

Conservation NGOs have known about this for many years. Others are aware of the abuse, but remain silent to protect their careers and funding. Their silence is complicity – it allows the atrocities to continue.

If we want to change conservation, environmental & human rights NGOs must speak out, and so must we - for tribes, for nature, for all humanity.
