Here, Nixiwaka of the Yawanawá people in Brazil explains the importance of the Amazon rainforest to him and to all the one million Indigenous people who live there, along with the crucial role they play in protecting it. Satellite images show that protected Indigenous territories are a key barrier to deforestation, and hearing Nixiwaka speak, it’s easy to understand why.
