UNESCO: Silence is complicity!
Far from the positive images associated with preserving our shared human heritage, horrific abuses unfold in many “natural” World Heritage Sites, with the complicity (and sometimes support) of UNESCO. Investigations by Survival International in Africa and Asia, have found repeated cases of evictions, torture, rape, and killings of Indigenous people in and around natural World Heritage Sites.
We urge UNESCO to stop supporting the fortress model of conservation and remove from their World Heritage Site list places where human rights atrocities occur.
