Amarlal Baiga’s land has been stolen to make way for a tree planting project – part of an offsetting scheme that allows companies in India to destroy a forest in one area as long as new trees are planted elsewhere. In this case forest is being replaced by a teak plantation which in no way compensates for the loss of a biodiverse forest. This is a so-called #NatureBasedSolution that won’t save the planet and robs Indigenous peoples, who have contributed the least to the climate crisis, of their land and their self sufficiency.

Tribal Voice is a project by Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples. More than one hundred and fifty million people in over sixty countries live in tribal societies.

From the Amazon to the Kalahari, from the jungles of India to the Congo rainforest, Tribal Voice gives them a platform. They experience appalling racism and genocidal violence. Their lands and resources are stolen for profit. Their ways of life are being deliberately and systematically destroyed.

Here they speak out about what matters to them; watch, listen, and get involved: https://svlint.org/TribalVoice
