Hidme Markam: arrested for speaking out

The violent arrest of Hidme Markam, an Adivasi (Indigenous) and women's rights activist, from a Women's Day event has sparked outrage in India.

Shortly before her arrest, Hidme explained why Adivasi resistance movements need to unite and called for women to come together against the violence they are subjected to from state and security forces, especially in mining areas.
